The rebrand story

Once Divvy — now BILL Spend & Expense

Divvy is now BILL! The same company card with enhanced spend control tools. BILL offers cards, spend limits, and automation to simplify expense management and save time. Here is the full story: what changed, what stayed, and what it means for your account.

One card, two eras: the Divvy card became the BILL Spend & Expense card without losing its number or limits.
Chapter 1 — Timeline

How Divvy became BILL Spend & Expense

The short version: a fast-growing card platform met the largest network for back-office automation, and the combination was stronger than either alone.

Timeline from Divvy founding in 2015 to rebrand as BILL Spend and Expense today
Key milestones: founded in 2015, scaled through 2019, acquired by BILL Holdings in 2021, rebranded as BILL Spend & Expense.

2015 — Divvy launches

Founded in Salt Lake City with one idea: enforce budgets before money is spent, not after. Corporate cards with hard limits became the signature feature.

2021 — BILL acquires Divvy

BILL Holdings, the leader in automated accounts payable, acquired Divvy for roughly $2.5 billion — uniting card spend with AP and payments automation.

Today — one platform, one name

The product now lives under the BILL umbrella as BILL Spend & Expense, part of a suite that covers spend, bills, invoices, and payments.

Nothing to migrate. Former Divvy customers did not have to re-enter card details, re-issue cards, or re-train employees. The rebrand was applied to the account — not by the account.

Chapter 3 — Why it matters

Why joining BILL made the product stronger

Divvy solved employee spend. BILL solved bills and payments. Together they cover the entire money-out workflow of a business.

One money-out system

Card spend, supplier bills, invoices, and reimbursements now flow through one platform with one approval model and one audit trail.

Deeper controls

The spend-control engine Divvy pioneered kept its edge: real-time limits, merchant rules, and budget pools — now with richer reporting on top.

More automation

Receipt matching, coding, approvals, and now payment execution run automatically — the fewer humans touch a transaction, the fewer errors it collects.

Chapter 4 — For existing users

If you used Divvy before the rebrand

Practically nothing is required from you. The checklist below covers every scenario former Divvy users actually encounter.

  • Sign in: use the BILL Spend & Expense portal with your existing Divvy credentials — see the login guide.
  • Cards: keep using them. Replacement cards arrive with BILL branding when your current ones expire.
  • Bookmarks: old Divvy links redirect; updating bookmarks simply avoids the extra hop.
  • Mobile app: update to the BILL Spend & Expense app in your store; sign in as before.
  • Integrations: QuickBooks and other connections stay active; re-authenticate only if prompted.

Chapter 5 — FAQ

Rebrand questions, answered

When did Divvy become BILL Spend & Expense?
BILL Holdings acquired Divvy in 2021. The product transitioned to the BILL brand progressively, and today operates fully as BILL Spend & Expense.
Did the rebrand change my card or limits?
No. Card numbers, limits, merchant controls, and history carried over unchanged. Only the branding and the surrounding platform grew.
Is BILL Spend & Expense still free?
The core platform remains free — cards, budgets, receipt capture, and reporting. Paid tiers add advanced controls, integrations, and higher limits, the same structure Divvy customers knew.
What new capabilities came with BILL?
The big one is connectivity: card spend now sits alongside BILL's accounts payable, invoicing, and payments products, giving finance teams one system for money going out.
Do I need to notify my employees?
A short heads-up is worth sending: the app name changed and sign-in happens on the BILL domain. Nothing else changes in their daily routine.
